With the advent of the New Year, we’d love to tell you a little about ourselves – where we grew up, what our dreams were, and what we’re up to besides. Our wish is that you’ll enjoy reading our stories as much as we enjoyed writing them.

I was born in Hong Kong on November 26, 1973. We moved to St. Thomas when I was less than a year old – ever since, it’s been my home. My father’s business started as a souvenir shop, which we later transformed into a jewelry business. During my high school days, I enjoyed helping my father in the store by serving drinks, running back and forth from the store to the workshop for jewelry repairs, and watching him transform customers into lifelong friends. I attended Georgetown University and graduated with a degree in Marketing and Business Management. Ultimately, I declined a job offer as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, opting instead to return to St. Thomas, following my passion for jewelry and my nostalgia for the “island life.”

Back home, I became my father’s apprentice. He taught me business etiquette, right from wrong, and the fundamentals of honesty and integrity. Most of all, though, he taught me about customer service, encouraging me to view our clientele not as a customer base but as lifelong family and friends.

In 1998, I married my beautiful wife, Simran. She has been my pillar of strength, from helping me at work to making my house into a home. In 2001, she helped me through the most difficult – and simultaneously the happiest – time in my life. I was dismayed with the sudden loss of my father, but five months later, I witnessed the birth of my daughter, Milan. We were blessed with our second child, Karina, in 2004. I know the rollercoaster ride has just begun as I watch them grow into beautiful, young, and intelligent teenagers.

In 2013, thanks our customers’ enduring support, loyalty, faith, and years of patronage, we expanded our store. I also believe that my father’s blessings and love endure, continuing to inspire success.

The entire Grand Jewelers family and I would like to wish you a very happy and prosperous New Year! Thank you for your continued love. We look forward to many more years of shared memories and moments.
